Radley 1998 Henley Royal Regatta Princess Elizabeth Cup winners

Editor notes that Donald Legget writes "Harry was asked to help at Radley College in January 1997 and it only took four months before Radley won the Queen Mother Cup for 1st 8s and the Elsenham Cup for 2nd 8s at National Schools for the first time in years. The following year Radley won the Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley for the first time since 1962 and the 2nd 8 continued their winning ways. In 1999 Radley lost an epic race to the winners, St. Edward's, Oxford by 3 feet. In 2000 and 2001 with even faster crews Radley won 1st and 2nd 8s at National Schools but went down at Henley to St Joseph's, USA and King's, Parramatta in the Princess Elizabeth. In November 2001, after Harry had died in May of that year, Donald Legget and a Team of Radley boys competed in the Indoor Ergo Championships at Birmingham in his memory. Concept 2 kindly donated an Ergo which was raffled for nearly £2,000 and Radley Parents and Pupils were extremely generous in their donations to the newly-formed Harry Mahon Cancer Research Trust. Harry coached virtually every Radley crew in some form or other. He was an inspiration to all. He became very attached to the school and asked if a party could be held there after he died. This was attended by so many of his friends on a lovely, sunny day. Radley crews have continued to be quick but they have lacked that extra gear Harry seemed to get out of the crews he coached. Similarly so at Cambridge."
